ICON in Education Design Awards


A goal of Learning By Design Magazine is to promote, educate, and help professionals whose work exemplifies how the design of the physical environment impacts learning, teaching, programming, and related social outcomes.

  • The ICON in Education Design Awards will recognize significant K-12 Educators, Architectural, and Influencer/Consultant Professional who are "change agents", who "go beyond the norm", and who "step out of the box" as reflected in their body of work that was influenced and shaped by the learning environments they have created.

  • An ICON Award nominated person must be sponsored by a third party. Sponsors may nominate one or more individuals with a strong record of leadership and change-maker demonstration specifically for improving the PK-12 educational experience despite obstacles perceived unsurmountable to others. This includes positively impacting the cultural, social, emotional, economic, academic and wellbeing outcomes for the communities they serve that was spurred or influenced by the improvement of the built environment. 

  • The five The 2024 ICON in Education Design Awards winners will be featured in the Summer (June 2024) edition of Learning By Design magazine and will be honored at the fall 2024 Tarkett Education Healthy Building Summit.  

Eligibility:

  • Sponsors (Individuals, Firms, Education Institutions, and Companies) may nominate PK-12 school educators, consultants/influencers, and architectural firm-based professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to the education industry and have made meaningful contributions that establish them as change-making leaders.

  • The ICON awards may only go to an individual.

Criteria:

  • The nominee does not accept the status-quo, but rather is a visionary who innovates, and is not afraid to experiment to cause change for improvement.

  • The nominee must have a record of achievement and contribution that visually showcases how the design of the built environment inpacts the delivery of education and can uplift both individuals and communities.

  • Nominee supports, educates, and develops professionals who lead the delivery of programs and projects for and within learning-built environments.

  • The nominee is a person who has dedicated themselves to the practice of education design, this should be easily observable by the quality and impact of their output.

  • The nominee is a diligent person whose work reflects intelligence and high-detail.  

  • The nominee is a philanthropic person who wishes to better mankind through the empowerment that can be achieved through the application of sound education design principles.

Deadlines:

  • Entry Deadline: Friday March 8, 2024

  • Final Nominee Submission Forms will be due Friday March 22, 2024.
    The Submission Form is substantive and will take time to complete

To nominate an individual for an ICON in Education Design Award, please provide
Learning By Design with the following materials:

 

  • Sponsors contact information.

  • Details related to nominees work role, place of business, age, and full contact information.

  • One brief nominee biography. Not to exceed 300 words.

  • One 800 to 1,000 word narrative that describes how the individual meets many or all the criteria listed above. The narrative should focus on the nominee’s influence on the outcome, delivery, or environment of education.  The narrative should clearly delineate how the nominee has made a difference within their community or profession. 

  • A list of up to 6 of the most significant education projects the nominee has working on.

  • A list of nominees involvements in the industry such as academic, associative, mentorship…and more

  • Photography (5-7 images) of the nominees work. Including approriate photo credits, and descriptive captions.

  • Sponsors may compile and submit videos supporting this nomination.

  • One letter of support is required: A brief testamonial letter from a third party individual, not nominator, but rather from someone who has witnessed or been the recipients of the nominee’s work.

  • Acknowledgement of Learning By Design copyright and photography permission of use and release statement. 

Entry Fee: $50 Per Nominated Individual

 

Selection Process:

A selection committee will consists of knowledge-based education and design professionals identified by Learning By Design Magazine's Publisher and the awards supporter, Tarkett Education. Upon selection, Learning By Design will notify the recipient of the award, they will be recognized in the June 2024 edition of the magazine as well as in-person at the September 2024 Education Healthy Building Summit.  

 

You are invited to nominate one or more persons for this award, and the nominees can be from your company or another organization.
